PRESS RELEASE
On Saturday, September 24,
HighPoint Marina held the “Top 50 Fish-off” to conclude the 2011 fishing
tournament season. Of the 97 teams that fished this season only the 50 top
teams were eligible for the finale. Jeff Parrish of Woodford, and alternate
Keith Lupo won the classic tournament with a weight of 16 lbs. 5 oz. Team
member Darrin Parrish was unable to fish the event because of a broken arm. The
team from Spotsylvania, Eric Johnson and Nathan Sullivan placed second with a
weight 14 lb.5 oz. They also placed second for the season. Larry Wollersheim
of Mineral and Preston Cox of Spotsylvania, who finished in first place for the
season, came in third with a weight of 13 lbs. 13 oz. The prize for biggest
fish was claimed by John Leake of Reva, a beautiful 6 lb 1 oz lunker. The BOAT
US sponsorship prize was awarded to Spotsylvania resident, Danny Minter.
The seasonal tournaments
were held every Friday evening beginning June 3rd, and ran for 12
weeks throughout the summer concluding on August 26th. Cash prizes
were awarded after every tournament and each teams’ total weight was kept on a
cumulative basis. The top 50 teams at the end of the season qualified for the
"Top 50 Fish Off”. Through out the summer over 2300 pounds of fish were
weighed and released. Collectively 97 different teams participated throughout
the season with 70 of the teams weighing in fish. On average, 47 teams fished
each week.
This seasonal race started
out close as four different teams recorded first place finishes during the first
five weeks. The team of Guy and Mike Davis won the season opener with a 15.24
pound stringer. Larry Wollersheim/Preston Cox won the next two contests and
held a slight lead. Each week Wollersheim/Cox extended their lead and by
winning the sixth tournament it became apparent they could win their 5th season
championship in 6 years. They ended the season with 168.86 lbs.; five first
place finishes; big fish for the year (7.12 lbs); and the overall championship.
Four teams battled throughout the remainder of the tournaments, and remained
within several pounds of each other. At summers end Eric Johnson and Nathan
Sullivan had moved into second place with a weight of 119.87 lbs. Will
Phillips/Curt Harper and Martin Villa/Jeff Gibson finished 3rd and 4th
respectively.

HighPoint Marina held the “Top 50 Fish-off” to conclude the 2010 fishing
tournament season. Of the 101 teams that fished this season only the 50 top
teams were eligible for the finale. Larry Wollersheim of Mineral and Preston Cox
of Spotsylvania, who finished in first place for the season, won the classic
tournament with a weight of 15 lbs. 7 oz. The team from Culpeper, Matt Seale
and Declan Wynham, finished in 2nd place with a weight of 15 lbs. 5
oz. The prize for biggest fish was claimed by Timmy Meadows of Kents Store, a
beautiful 6 lb 8 oz lunker.
On Friday, August 27th
, HighPoint Marina held its final Friday night, bass tournament of the season.
The tournaments were held every Friday evening beginning June 4th ,
and ran for 12 weeks throughout the summer. Cash prizes were awarded after
every tournament and each teams’ total weight was kept on a cumulative basis.
The top 50 teams at the end of the season qualified for the "Top 50 Fish
Off”. Through out the summer over 2000 pounds of fish were weighed and
released. Collectively 101 different teams participated throughout the season
with 74 of the teams weighing in fish. On average, 48 teams fished each week.
This seasonal race started
out close as three different teams recorded first place finishes the first three
weeks. The team of Wayne Dorman/Glen Vico won the season opener with a 15.20
pound stringer, followed by Larry Wollersheim/Preston Cox who won week 2 and
recorded enough weight to move into first place for the season. Beginning in
week 4 Wollersheim/Cox extended their lead by winning the next 3 out of 4
tournaments. They ended the season with 149.47 lbs.; six first place finishes;
big fish for the year; and the overall season championship. Mid-way through
this summer classic it was obvious their weight could not be matched. The other
anglers began the fight for second place. Over the remainder of the
tournaments, four teams battled and remained within several pounds of each
other. At summers end Dave Chisholm/Wilson Bradley had moved into second place
with a weight of 93.12 lbs. Martin Villa/Jeff Gibson and Dorman/Vico finished 3rd
and 4th respectively. This is the fourth time in five seasons
Wollersheim and Cox have won the summer tournaments.

FRIDAY NIGHT TOURNAMENT
SEASON SUMMARY 2009
PRESS RELEASE
On Saturday, September 26,
HighPoint Marina held the “Top 50 Fish-off” to conclude the 2009 fishing
tournament season. Of the 110 teams that fished this season only the 50 top
teams were eligible for the finale. Larry Wollersheim of Mineral and Preston Cox
of Spotsylvania, who finished in first place for the season, won the classic
tournament with a weight of 19 lbs. The team from Crozet, Martin Villa and Jeff
Gibson, who finished 3rd for the season, took 2nd place
with a weight of 17 lbs. 9 oz. They also claimed the big fish prize by landing
a 6 lb. 4 oz lunker.
On Friday, August 21st,
HighPoint Marina held its final Friday night, bass tournament of the season.
The tournaments were held every Friday evening beginning May 29th, and ran for
12 weeks throughout the summer. Cash prizes were awarded after every
tournament and each teams’ total weight was kept on a cumulative basis. The top
50 teams at the end of the season have qualified for the "Top 50 Fish Off" which
will be held Saturday, September 26th. A record setting year as a total of
2,771 pounds of fish were weighed and released. The first place team also set a
record weighing in over 187 pounds during the 12 week tournament, an astounding
15 pound 09 ounce average. Collectively 110 different teams participated
throughout the season with 85 of the teams weighing in fish. On average, 56
teams fished each week.
This seasonal race started
out close as three different teams recorded first place finishes the first three
weeks. The team of Larry McFadden/Tommie Mitchell won the season opener with a
13.68 pound stringer, followed by Martin Villa/Jeff Gibson who won week 2 and
recorded enough weight to move into first place for the season. Week three began
a record breaking run for the Wollersheim/Cox team. Over the next ten weeks
they would win 8 of 10 tournaments including the final five, giving them a total
weight for the season of just under 188 pounds. Mid-way through this summer
classic it was obvious their weight could not be matched. The other anglers
began the fight for second place. At week three the Darrin Bache/Larry Meadows
team was quietly in 30th place. They fought and struggled their way
back into contention helping their cause with a 21 pound 8 ounce win in week 7.
They were able to pass Villa/Gibson in week 10 to capture 2nd
place. They finished in 2nd, 67 pounds behind Wollersheim/Cox. This
is the third time in four seasons Wollersheim and Cox have won the summer
tournaments. They also caught the big fish for the year at 7 pounds 4 ounces.
Villa/Gibson; David Chilsom/Wilson Bradley Eric Johnson/Nathan Sullivan
finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively.
